My So-Called Life Re-watched
Episode 1: Pilot

Michelle was a few minutes late, Keris’s borrowed DVD skipped continually, Jenni’s hadn’t yet arrived, Kirsty was a couple of minutes ahead of me and Kate and Luisa were “with Tino” (i.e. absent) ‘cos of the whole watching at lunchtime thing. Also, Jill Mansell wondered what the heck we were doing.

But some of us managed to watch at least some of the first episode of My So-Called Life. And it was wonderful.

What struck me was that the show’s emotional impact hasn’t diminished over time. And that’s in large part due to the quality of the writing and the talent of the actors.

Next time, I may try not to tweet quite so much, but it was fun knowing I was watching along with other people on Twitter. Here’s some of what we said:

@dianeshipley: One of my fave lines: “Can’t people just cheer on their own… like, to themselves?”

@Keris: I’m concerned about everyone’s overreaction to Angela’s hair. It’s hardly any different. It’s not like she shaved her head.

@Novelicious: “Seeing a teacher’s actual lunch is, like, so depressing” Haha!

@JillMansell: What IS this? What IS IT???

@Keris: It’s skipping again. For the love of GOD. At this rate, I’m going to have to do some work instead.

@JuniperJungle There’s a bloke in eyeliner? God I’m going to love this!

@cloverness: She lives by her wits. In an alley. How is it possible for me to love this show any more than I do?!

@cloverness: The REM song was an inspired choice.

@dianeshipley: “For a while, she was looking for her real parents. I guess that’s what everyone’s looking for.” So clever.

Basically, we had a time.
